Description

G-Collars, the frangible collars manufactured by Growermetal, are fasteners used in the aerospace industry to join structural components with precision and reliability while minimizing the weight of the bolted joint. They work together with threaded pins in a fastening system designed to withstand both shear and tensile loads in aerostructure joints.

G-Collars offer several advantages:

  • They are self-locking: the deformation of the thread (crimping) ensures an anti-loosening effect.
  • The tightening is safe and ensures a constant preload.
  • The joint load is predefined: during the installation a portion of the collar shears off in a controlled way, guaranteeing the correct clamping force without requiring torque-controlled tools.
  • They are available in various materials and coatings to meet all requirements in terms of strength, weight and application.
  • They are suitable for different types of loads: shear and tension application, even in areas with limited access.
  • They are available in two versions: standard and lightweight, to further reduce the weight of the bolted joint.

  • G-COLLAR LOCK (GWCL)
    Frangible collar, designed to provide controlled preload and high strength in structural joints.
    • Features: standard profile, ideal for structures subjected to high loads.
    • Materials: 2024-T6 aluminum, A-286, 300 series and 17-4PH stainless steel.
    • Coatings: cadmium plating per AMS-QQ-P-416, solid film lubrication per AS5272, aluminum coating per NAS4006, anodizing per MIL-A-8625, silver plating per AMS2410.
    • Thread forms: metric and UNJ per AS8879 class 3B.


  • G-COLLAR LIGHT (GWCST)
    An evolution of the G-Collar, featuring reduced weight for applications where weight saving is paramount.
    • Features: reliable tightening with a reduced profile design that ensures weight saving while maintaining the same performance.
    • Materials: 7075-T73 aluminum, A-286, 300-series and 17-4PH stainless steel.
    • Coatings: cadmium plating per AMS-QQ-P-416, solid film lubrication per AS5272, aluminum coating per NAS4006, anodizing per MIL-A-8625, silver plating per AMS2410.
    • Thread forms: metric and UNJ per AS8879 class 3B.
