Producers of washers and safety pillars for over seventy years

Founded in 1950, Growermetal is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of security washers, blanked parts according to customer’s specification and railway washers.

Since its establishment, Growermetal maintained its independence and has been run by the Cattaneo family, and it is now run by the second generation of entrepreneurs.

Growermetal’s milestones

Virginio Cattaneo founded Growermetal’s first site in 1950.

During 1962 the site in Lecco was moved to its current production facility in Calco. At the end of the decade, in 1969, the factory underwent its first expansion.

At the turn of 1982 and 1985, the transition of management competences from the first to the second generation with the consequent reformulation of the company hierarchies.

The 1990s saw the start of the process development: new automatic machines were introduced to enhance all stages of the production process, new quality control equipments were installed, and the extension of the IT system to the production processes was implemented. The production range was extended to captive screw washers, nut washers and conical contact washers and in 1997 Growermetal achieved the ISO 9001 quality system certification.

The production area was further expanded and the range extended with new geometries. The expansion of the blanking department dates back to 2005, followed between 2006 and 2007 by the construction of the end-product warehouse and the surface treatment department. In the same period Growermetal obtained ISO 14001 certification for the environment management, while in 2009 the Mechanical Zinc Plating Division was qualified by MacDermid® and included among the approved platers for the Zinklad 250M treatment.

Launch of Twin-Lock washers in 2011.The quality system was awarded with the IATF 16949 certification for the automotive industry. In 2013 a new efficient automated warehouse is put into service to guarantee just-in-time delivery to customers and in 2016 was inaugurated the Zinc Flake Coating Line. In these years Growermetal founded two new offices to efficiently serve international markets: Growermetal USA (2014) and Growermetal Do Mercosul LTDA in Brazil (2016).

Launch of Grower Tenkeep® safety washers in 2019.In 2021 achievement of the quality system certification according to the EN 9100 for the aerospace industry. The company underwent a new expansion and changes its management structure with the introduction of new management figures. In 2022 the company obtained the ISO 45001 certification for health and safety management, followed in 2023 by the ISO 50001 certification for the energy management. In 2023, we launched a new innovative product under the Growermetal brand: Grower Spheratech®.

From our headquarter in Calco, 40 km from Milan, we have grown to become a global benchmark in the production of spring washers and blanked parts. Through innovation, technology and customization, we continue to transmit and spread to the world the vision and values of our founder Virginio Cattaneo.

In April 2021 Growermetal achieved quality management system certification according to the EN 9100:2018 standard for the Aerospace industry.
