External teethed washers
Description
External teethed washers with geometry according to the standard DIN 6798 have teeth on the outer edge allowing for maximum contact on the biggest possible surface area. The teeth are superimposed on one another maximizing the friction between the bearing surface and the bolt or nut to provide a nice locking effect.
They are more effective on flat bearing surfaces that are larger than their outer diameter and suitable for light application and soft bearing surface, such as mild steel and aluminium.
The teeth bite into the bearing surface and the underhead of the screw to oppose the loosening force.
External teethed washers are normally designed for use with bolt/nut assemblies involving fasteners of a property class less than 8.8.
